Dead Deer Removal Cost in Middle Tennessee

What Affects the Price — and How to Get an Accurate Quote

Dead deer removal is not a flat-rate service. The cost depends on where the deer is, how long it has been there, how accessible it is, and what cleanup is needed afterward. This page explains what goes into the price so you know what to expect before you call.

What Affects the Cost

1

Location on the property

A deer in an open yard is the simplest removal. A deer in a crawl space, under a deck, in a creek bed, impaled on a fence, or deep in a wooded area requires more time, equipment, and labor. Confined or hard-to-reach locations add to the cost.

2

Stage of decomposition

A freshly dead deer is straightforward to remove. A deer that has been decomposing for several days or weeks requires more careful handling, additional PPE, and thorough site treatment. Advanced decomposition also means more cleanup work — fluids, tissue, and odor treatment.

3

Size of the deer

A mature buck can weigh 150–200 pounds or more. A doe typically runs 90–130 pounds. Larger deer require more physical effort and may require additional equipment for removal from difficult locations.

4

Number of deer

EHD and other disease outbreaks can kill multiple deer at the same location. Multiple carcasses at one property are typically priced together at a lower per-deer rate than separate calls.

5

Cleanup and odor treatment

Basic removal includes the carcass. If decomposition fluids have soaked into soil, concrete, wood, or other surfaces, additional cleanup and enzyme-based odor treatment adds to the total. This is especially relevant for deer that died in enclosed spaces.

6

Distance and travel

We serve all of Middle Tennessee — Nashville and the surrounding counties. Properties farther from our base may include a travel component in the quote.

What Is Included

  • Carcass removal and TWRA-permitted disposal
  • Double-bagged containment to prevent fluid leakage during transport
  • Basic site inspection after removal
  • Odor treatment of the immediate removal area (standard)
  • Coordination with TWRA if required (CWD-suspected or shot deer)

What May Cost Extra

  • Extended odor remediation for enclosed spaces (crawl spaces, under decks)
  • Soil excavation where fluids have deeply penetrated
  • Structural cleaning (concrete washing, wood treatment)
  • Multiple return visits if TWRA requires a hold on the carcass

Why Not Handle It Yourself?

Tennessee law requires that deer carcasses be disposed of in compliance with TWRA regulations. Improper disposal — including burying on your property without authorization or placing in household trash — can result in fines. Beyond the legal issue, handling a decomposing deer without proper PPE exposes you to bacteria, parasites, and in CWD zones, potential prion contamination. We are TWRA-permitted, licensed, and insured. The cost of professional removal is typically far less than the cost of a cleanup gone wrong.

Pricing Questions

Can you give me a price over the phone?

Yes, in most cases. We will ask you a few questions — where the deer is, how long it has been there, and whether there are any access challenges — and give you a quote before we come out. For unusual situations we may need to see the site first.

Is there a fee just to come out and look?

No. If we come out and the job is straightforward, the quote we gave you over the phone is the price. We do not charge a separate inspection fee.

Does homeowner's insurance cover dead deer removal?

Some homeowner's policies cover wildlife removal or nuisance animal removal as part of a broader policy. It depends on your insurer and policy terms. We can provide an itemized receipt that you can submit to your insurance company. Call your insurer to ask before assuming it is or is not covered.

Will the county or city remove the deer for free?

Government removal is limited to deer on public roads and rights-of-way. A deer on private property — your yard, driveway, pasture, or wooded acreage — is your responsibility. Metro Nashville Public Works and county highway departments do not respond to private property calls. See our county bulk pickup pages for details on what government services do and do not cover.

What if the deer is in a hard-to-reach spot and the price seems high?

Difficult access genuinely increases the time and labor involved. We will always explain what is driving the price. If you have a specific budget concern, tell us — we will do our best to work with you or explain exactly what the job requires.

Do you charge more for same-day service?

We do not add a premium for same-day service. The price is based on the job, not the urgency of your call.
